Market Square is Getting a Major Makeover

Great news for the heart of our town! Bicester’s Market Square is about to get a fantastic transformation. A £5.1 million project has been approved and is moving forward with genuine excitement. The new design will bring outdoor dining areas, lots of green space, and community art installations that’ll make our town centre a much nicer place to be. Construction kicks off in spring 2026 and should wrap up by summer 2027. The council listened carefully to what residents and local businesses wanted, and this new look will keep parking available while making everything feel more open and welcoming.

Mercedes-Benz’s Bicester HQ is Ready to Welcome Workers

Something really special just happened at Bicester Motion. The brand new £26.8 million headquarters for YASA is now complete and looks stunning. YASA is a world-leader in electric motor technology that spun out from Oxford University. More than 500 people worked on building this incredible facility, and the project created 17 new jobs plus six apprenticeships for local young people. Starting this summer, over 400 YASA employees will move into their new home at Bicester Motion, bringing even more skilled jobs to our area. Schools like Whitelands Academy got involved too, with students gaining work experience and learning about future mobility technology.

Bicester Town Council Shares the Year Ahead

The Town Council recently shared its exciting events calendar for 2026. Mark your calendars for the Mayor’s Charity Pub Quiz on March 20, the Easter Egg Hunt on April 2, and Sundays in the Park on May 31. It’s brilliant to see so many chances for us to come together as a community.

Community Buzz

There’s a real energy in Bicester right now. Residents and businesses came together to shape the Market Square design, and that’s exactly what good community planning looks like. Our local Facebook groups have been buzzing with excitement about the changes ahead. Whether it’s on Bicester Chat or in the many community forums, people are genuinely excited about where our town is heading. Beautiful Bicester and Bicester Vision keep community information flowing, helping everyone stay in the loop about what matters locally.

Business Beat

Bicester Motion continues to be the heart of innovation and growth. With YASA’s arrival, we’re seeing real investment in our area and local training opportunities. The apprenticeships and school partnerships created during construction show how big businesses can support the next generation. Local businesses are thriving too, with lots of networking happening through the Wednesday Business Club and other business groups.

Council Corner

Cherwell District Council is working hard to make Bicester even better. The Market Square project is just one example of how the council is listening to residents and investing in our town’s future. Archaeological surveys are starting soon to understand our town’s heritage before construction begins. The council has also invested an extra £881,000 into the Market Square project to make sure it’s done right.

Around the Region

If you’re interested in local economic news, Bicester Motion’s success story is getting noticed right across Oxfordshire. As home to cutting-edge automotive technology companies and future mobility businesses, our area is becoming known as a real hub for innovation and sustainable transport solutions.

Closing Note

What an exciting time to be part of our community. Whether you’re thinking about getting involved with the Market Square changes, attending the college open evening, or just enjoying more great things happening in Bicester, there’s something for everyone.
