Harry Kane Makes History and Bicester Marks Armed Forces Day in a Scorching Week

Bicester Town Council invited residents to Pingle Field on Saturday 27 June for Armed Forces Day and a special flag‑raising ceremony. Families, veterans and serving personnel came together to show thanks and enjoy a relaxed community day in one of our town's main green spaces.

Scramblers marked their fifth anniversary with a "We Are Five" Assembly at Bicester Motion from on Sunday 28 June by turning the historic airfield into an easy family day out with classic cars and friendly chat.

Nearby pubs and venues are promoting live music, comedy and social meet‑ups through county listings, giving Bicester businesses more chances to attract visitors from across Oxfordshire this summer.

Cherwell District Council is part of a county‑wide programme that will see the largest rollout of public electric vehicle charging points in the next two years, aimed at residents without a private driveway. Most chargers will go into council‑run car parks, with dedicated bays for disabled drivers and EV car clubs, making it easier for people in Bicester, Banbury and Kidlington to consider switching to an electric car.

The council is also in talks with West Oxfordshire and neighbouring authorities about future local government arrangements, ahead of a government announcement expected in July. These discussions aim to protect everyday services such as housing, recycling, parks and community support for residents across the Cherwell area.

Oxford City Council has opened 29 affordable homes at Keepers Place in Littlemore and approved 31 more at Bertie Place, while work has begun on 80 affordable homes at Mill Lane in Old Marston. That brings over 140 new affordable homes into the Oxford area, adding to housing options within commuting distance of Bicester.

The council is also installing water safety signs at six river and stream locations around the city and made temporary changes to waste collections during last week's heatwave to keep crews safe while bins were still collected.

Across England, millions are planning watch parties for the World Cup knockouts, with England's potential path running through DR Congo, then possibly Mexico, Brazil and Argentina if results go their way.
