Bicester Motion Unveils a Bold 10-Year Plan
Bicester Motion, the 444-acre future mobility estate on our doorstep, has shared its biggest plans yet. On 28 May, the estate launched a public consultation on a 10-year investment plan that would add one million square feet of new offices and technical workspace, around 200 new affordable apartments, a hotel with lodges, and a clubhouse. The plan also aims to deliver 10% biodiversity net gain across the estate. CEO Daniel Geoghegan said the team is proud of the world-leading cluster they have built and wants to hear what the community thinks as they look ahead. This is a real chance to have your say on a major local project.
The public consultation is open now until 25 June 2026, and a free drop-in exhibition is being held at Bicester Motion on Friday 12 June from 2pm to 7pm (Gate 8, Building 141, no booking needed).
Bicester Has a New Mayor
Bicester welcomed a new mayor this month. Councillor Dr Paul Wheatley of the Liberal Democrat party was officially made Mayor of Bicester at the Annual Mayor Making Ceremony held in May 2026. He has already announced his two chosen charities for the year: Forget-me-not Bicester and Bicester Autism/ADHD. The Annual Town Meeting was held on 18 May at the Chamber Room, where residents heard from Mayor Wheatley directly about his vision for the year ahead.
Sundays in the Park Kicked Off Yesterday
Bicester Live and Bicester Town Council joined forces to bring back Sundays in the Park, which launched yesterday, Sunday 1 June, at Garth Park. This new partnership is a lovely sign of what is ahead for the summer. If you missed the first one, keep your Sundays free as the series continues through the season.
Community Buzz
Bicester's community groups have been busy this week. Mayor Wheatley's chosen charities, Forget-me-not Bicester and Bicester Autism/ADHD, are now in the spotlight for the mayoral year, and both welcome new supporters. The Bicester Town Council Facebook page has also been teasing an August performer announcement for Garth Park, which got plenty of locals buzzing in the comments. Keep an eye on the council's page for that big reveal.
Business Beat
Bicester Motion is the business story of the week. More than £100 million has already been invested in the estate since its transformation began, and the new 10-year plan signals another round of serious commitment to growth, skilled jobs, and housing in our area. The estate is already home to over 50 automotive and aviation businesses, and the new plan would bring even more career pathways and local opportunities.
Council Corner
Cherwell District Council's £5.1 million Bicester Market Square regeneration is still moving forward, with construction now expected to begin in summer 2026 and completion targeted for summer 2027. The approved design brings outdoor dining, greenery, community art, and a more pedestrian-friendly layout to the heart of Bicester town centre. Also, a new parking order for Pioneer Square, Bicester came into effect in late April 2026, which is worth knowing if you park in that area.
Around the Region
One quick heads-up for anyone driving through Launton: Bicester Road will be closed near Manor Farm from 8 June to 11 June while a new water supply connection is put in. A signed diversion will be in place, so it is worth planning your route if you pass that way.
